Our Trekkings around Bac Ha
Located 3 hours east of Sapa, between Lao Cai and Ha Giang, the region of Bac Ha is completely different from Sapa : populated essentially by Flower H'mongs, whose women wear extraordinary colorful dresses, it is a region of mountains less high and steep than around Sapa, that the locals have covered as far as one can see with rice and corn terraces. Famous for its markets, Can Cau on Saturday and Bac Ha on Sunday, it also offers superb trekking, much less renown that the Sapa one and consequently far from Mass Tourism.
All the prices are per person in US dollars and include a car with driver, English-speaking guide, meals, hotels or homestay house, the boat (for the Coc Ly programme), the permits and the entrances into the villages.
Upon request, we can give you the rate including the roundtrip train ticket Hanoi-Lao Cai, the transfers from Lao Cai or Sapa to Bac Ha, as well as a combination of trekking around Sapa and Bac Ha.
ATTENTION : The rates include a local guide only. If you do not go to Bac Ha with a guide from our agency, you have to pay yourself an English-speaking guide in addition to the local one : 20$ for one day, 40$ for 2 days and 60$ for 3 days.

TUESDAY ONLY: Coc Ly Market (lunch)
| Departure from Bac ha in a car with driver and guide, ddirection the small Coc Ly Market, 23 km west of Bac Ha and where the local minorities H'mong, Dao, Nung, Phu La, etc. gather for a morning of trade and eating. Lunch at the market.
The car then takes you to the banks of the Chay River for a beautiful boat ride down to the village of Bao Nhai, where the car picks you up to return to Bac Ha. |

Departure from Bac Ha by car for the small Can Cau Market 18 km north of Bac Ha and where the the local H'mong, Dao, Nung, Phu La, etc. minorities gather for a morning of trade and eating.

Trek downhill through rice-fields, lunch, climb the hills to the village of Lu Than, then arrive in the Fula village of Lung Phinh, where you in the Fula family.
Day 3: Lung Phin - Lau thi Ngai - Bac Ha (breakfast, lunch)
Start your trek on moutain trails, crossing H’mong villages. lunch and return to Bac Ha in the afternoon

Day 2: Ta Van Chu – Lung Phin (3 meals)
Beautiful day of trekking in the mountains between Ta Van Chu and the start walking from Ta Van Chu to the Fula village of Lung Phin, Stop at noon for picnic under the shade. Continue trekking to Lung Phin in the afternoon. Stay overnight in family of Phu La tribe homestay.
Day 3: Lung Phin - Lau Thi Ngai - Thai Giang Pho - Na No (3 meals)
After you having breakfast in homestay, we go downhill from Lung Phin to the Fula village of Lau Thi Nga. We have lunch, then go more downhill towards Bac Ha, crossing the H’mong villages of Lau Thi Ngai and Thai Giang Pho. We then arrive in the Tay village of Na No, where we have dinner and spend the night in a homestay house.
Day 4: Na No – Ngai Thau – Pec Bung – Bac Ha (breakfast, lunch)
After you having breakfast from the home stay to the point where you can start trek up hill to Ngai Thau then down to Na Hoi to come in view at beautiful landscapes and happy to discover colorful dresses of local ethnic minority. Have lunch on the top of the mountain. Come back to Bac Ha in the afternoon.

Trekkings in the Pu Luong Reserve

This exceptional trekking takes you to the Pu Luong Natural reserve, an 18 000-ha mountain massif south of the well-known valley of de Mai Chau, wit the highest peak reaching 1441 m. The north-east, where the trekkings take place, is a maze of lime peaks and small valleys. 1109 species of flora have been classified, as well as 342 species of fauna, including extremely rare Delacour Lungurs. The reserve is mainly populated of Thai and Muong minority tribes, with some h'mongs and dao. The region is also famous for the beauty of its rice field terraces. |

Day 1 : HANOI – HOA BINH – BAN HIEU (breakf., dinner)

We leave Hanoi for the Pu Luong Nature Reserve, south of Mai Chau, Hoa Binh Province, including a 4-hour drive through the Red River Delta, and then higher and higher mountain ranges with amazing panoramas. Lunch in the village of Muong Khen, then climb a large pass, crossed a plateau and vertiginous descent on the cliff to a large valley. We finally arrive at the foot of the mountain where is located the small Thai village of Ban Hieu. Walking to the village, rest, dinner and overnight in the beautiful guest house on stilts of Tam and Tung.

Day 2 : TREKKING PU LUONG (3 meals)
13 to 18 km trekking as you wish. Beautiful walk through superb rice field terraces and Minority villages. Picnic lunch. Return to the village for another delicious dinner and a second night.

Day 3 : BAN HIEU – PU LUONG – MAI CHAU (3 meals) We leave Ban Hieu and cross the whole national park by beautiful little mountain roads. We arrive for lunch in the superb valley of Mai Chau. Walk in the valley and its villages of Pom Coong and Ban Lac. Delicious dinner and overnight in a Thai house in Pom Coong. |

Day 4 : MAI CHAU – HOA BINH - HANOI (breakf.) Relax walking through the rice fields and villages of Pom Coong and Ban Lac. Lunch at your charge and return to Hanoi, where we drop you at your hotel around 18:00 (or drive Mai Chau-Tam Coc). Before or after your 4 or 6-day trekking, we propose to you a one-day option in the beautiful Valley of Mai Chau, where you have diner and spend the night in a stilted family house of the Thai village of Pom Coong. |

Option one day Mai Chau before the trekking
If you choose the option before the trekking, the first 2 days of the programme are :
Day 1 : HANOI – MAI CHAU – POM COONG (lunch, dinner)
Morning departure to Hoa Binh. Stops on the road to admire the magnificent panorama, first on top of the pass, then on the descent overlooking the superb valley of Mai Chau. Arrival in the White Thai village of Pom Coong, where you settle for the night in a delightful family's traditional stilted house. Lunch in the family house. You spend the afternoon strolling or biking through the villages and the rice fields. Return to Pom Coong for diner and one night at your Thai home.
Day 2 : POM COONG - BAN SAI – BAN HIEU (3 meals)
Departure from Pom Coong after breakfast, to arrive in Ban Sai and start the 4 or 6-day trekking
Option one day Mai Chau after the trekking
If you choose the option after the trekking, the last 2 days of the programme are :
Last day of trekking (3 meals)
At the end of the trekking, the driver takes you to the village of Pom Coong, where you have dinner and spend the night in a Thai stilted family house.
Following day : POM COONG – MAI CHAU - HANOI (breakfast, lunch)
You spend the morning visiting the village and strolling or bicycling through the valley. Lunch in the family house and return to Hanoi.
