Our Trekkings around Sapa


We offer you 2 kinds of trekkings, easy or more sportive, with nights in a Minority village house:
All those tours start the evening of the day before, when you take the night train Ha Noi-Lao Cai (air-conditioned 4-berth cabin), arriving in Lao Cai around 6 AM. Possibility of a 2-berth cabin with supplement.

The rates listed include the RT night train Hanoi-Lao Cai, the RT transfers by minibus Lao Cai-Sapa, the breakfast when you arrive in Sapa the first day, the trekking with village entrance fees, guide, meals, and nights in a homestay, taxes and service. They do not include, the diner in Lao Cai before taking the return night train, personal insurance, the return transfer Hanoi Railway Station-Hotel, your drinks and personal purchases.






SAPA : ONE-DAY EASY TREKKING (10 km / 3-4 hours) (lunch)
 
Day 1 : MA TRA – LU KHAU - TA PHIN

The trekking starts around 9:00 and allows the discovery of two ethinc minorities : the Black H’mong and the Red Dao. It is an easy trekking going through the valley of Ma Tra, offering superb panoramas.

Lunch and visit of the Red Dao village of Ta Phin. Return to Sapa by car.

ONE-DAY SPORTIVE TREKKING (16 km / 5-6 hours) (lunch)

   
Day 1 : MSA SENG - HANG DA – HAU THAU – GIANG TA CHAI

The trekking starts around 9:00, with a car taking you to the trail. It starts with a 1h30-2-hour walk with a difference in height of 500 meters, an effort rewarded by a spectacular view from the top on the entire Valley of Muong Hoa.

Picnic lunch among the rice fields, then we go down to the Commune of Hau Thau, before ending at the superb Giang Ta Chai Watrefalls (Silver Waterfalls). Return to Sapa by car.

2-DAY EASY TREKKING
MA TRA – TA PHIN – SA SENG – GIANG TA CHAI (1 night homestay)


Day 1: LAO CAI – SAPA - MA TRA – LU KHAU - TA PHIN (trekking 10 km) (lunch, dinner)

  Arrival at Lao Cai Railway Station around 6:00. Minibus transfer to Sapa. Meeting with your guide in front of a good breakfast. Departure around 9:00 to discover the rich Dao and h’mong culture. We walk up and down through terrace rice fields and small ethnic village, towards the Valley of Ma Tra.

We arrive at the dao homestay local house in the dao village of Ta Phin, on time for lunch. Relaxed stroll around the village after lunch. Diner and night at the dao homestay.

Day 2: TA PHIN – SA SENG – GIANG TA CHAI - SAPA (trekking 16 km) (breakf, lunch)


On the trail to Ta Phin
After breakfast, departure for the village de Sa Seng. We climb a pass leading to the Valley of Muong Hoa and arrive at the village of Hau Thao, offering magnificent panoramic views of the valley, the most beautiful around Sapa.

Picnic lunch in the rice fields, followed by more walking to discover the local life.

Return tp Sapa by car. End of the afternoon free to visit the two markets of Sapa and do some shopping. Return to Lao Cai, free diner, and night train to Ha Noi.

2-DAY SPORTIVE TREKKING
LAO CAI – SAPA - ETHNIC VILLAGES (1 night homestay)


 
Day 1: LAO CAI – SAPA - Y LINH HO – LAO CHAI – TA VAN (trekking 16 km) (3 meals)

Arrival at Lao Cai Railway Station around 6 :00. Minibus. transfer to Sapa (1h). Meeting with your guide in front of a good breakfast. Departure around 9:00. This 16-km trekking takes you the villages de Y Linh Ho, Lao Chai and Ta Van. You walk through terraced rice fields, along waterfalls, on suspended bridges, alongside rivers, among a magnificent scenery. Lunch in a café on top of the mountain, followed be the descent to the villages of Lao Chai and Ta Van. Diner and night in a Dzai homestay
   


Day 2: TA VAN - LAO CHAI – SAPA (trekking 10 km) (breakf, lunch)

After breakfast, we return to Lao Chai on different trails, through two secluded valleys, terraced rice fields, waterfalls and ethnic villages. Lunch alongside a river. Return to Sapa by car.

End of the afternoon free to visit the two markets of Sapa and do some shopping. Return to Lao Cai, free diner, and night train to Ha Noi.

SAPA : 2-DAY TREKKING AMONG THE DAO OF SA SENG

MA TRA – TA PHIN – SA SENG

This trekking is different from the others, for it takes you to the own house of his organizer, Olivier, and his Dao wife, isolated in a hamlet of 5-6 houses in the mountains. Your guide is a Dao or a H’mong whose family has been living in the Ta Phin/Sa Seng mountains for generations. The homestay is very simple: 2 bedrooms, water in a cistern, Turkish toilets, but one cannot find more authentic nor enjoy a better hospitality from a minority family. Recommended for those who wish to be completely off-the-beaten-path and who are not disturbed by the simplicity of the lodging.


Day 1 : SAPA – MA TRA – TA PHIN – SA SENG
(lunch, dinner)

Your guide meets you at your Sapa hotel around 9:00. After walking 15/20 minutes through Sapa, you leave the town on a trail snaking through terraced rice-fields and small green tea plantations.

Arrival in the H'mong village of Ma Tra, with its fields of indigo (visit of dyers in season) and hemp. The trail continues through terraces, to arrive at the Dao village of Ta Phin.
 

Light lunch in the village, followed by an hour-walk in high mountains to arrive around 16:00 at your homestay house, located in Sa Seng, a hamlet of a few traditional Dao houses. Relaxation. Before diner, you enjoy a marvelous traditional dao herb bath, recognized for its medicinal virtues. Diner and night in the house.


 
Day 2 : SA SENG - TAPHIN – MA TRA - SAPA
(12 km / 3 hours) (breakf)

After a delicious breakfast (crepes with local wild honey and banana, bread and jam or noodle soup with pork), return to Sapa with two choices:

- Either take a different trail passing in front of the ruins of the French Convent of Ma Tra, built in 1920;
 
 

- Or, if you are tired, relax in the house after breakfast, then walk to the main road and return to Sapa by motorbike with driver (45-mn ride through corn fields) Both enjoying spectacular of the surrounding mountains and terraces. Arrival in Sapa around 13h.

Day 2: TA PHIN – HANG DA – HAU THAO – GIANG TA CHAI (trekking 17 km) (3 meals)

After breakfast, we walk up to the Hang Da Plateau before climbing a pass leading to the Valley of Muong Hoa. Arrival at the Village of Hau Thao, from which we enjoy superb panoramic views over the valley. Picnic lunch and continuation of the trekking through terraced rice fields. Diner and night in a Dzai homestay in the village of Giang Ta Chai.


Day 3 : GIAN TA CHAI – SU PAN - SAPA (trekking 14 km) (breakf, lunch)

    After breakfast, we walk through the rice fields, arrive at a waterfall, where you can swim. Visit of Giang Ta Chai, home to three ethnic minorities : dzai, h’mong and dao. Picinic at the village of Su Pan, and continuation to the village of Ban Den. Return to Sapa by car.

End of the afternoon free to visit the two markets of Sapa and do some shopping. Return to Lao Cai, free diner, and night train to Ha Noi.

3-DAY SPORTIVE TREKKING

This trek takes you through a region which is still isolated, authentic and rarely visited.

Day 1:
LAO CAI – SAPA – CAN HO – SUOI THAU – XA XENG (trekking 15 km) (3 meals)

Arrival at Lao Cai Railway Station around 6:00. Minibus transfer to Sapa. Meeting with your guide in front of a good breakfast. Departure around 9:00. In a region still isolated and authentic, you will walk through 15 km of bamboo and terraced rice fields while meeting local people. Visit of a salmon farm and picnic lunch. Diner and night in a homestay of the dao village of Xa Xeng.

Day 2: XA XENG - HANG DA - GIANG THA CHAI (trekking 17 km) (3 meals)

After breakfast, we walk up to the Hang Da Plateau before climbing a pass leading to the Valley of Muong Hoa. Arrival at the Village of Hau Thao, from which we enjoy superb panoramic views over the valley. Picnic lunch and continuation of the trekking through terraced rice fileds. Diner and night in a Dzai homestay ine the village of Giang Ta Chai.


Day 3: GIANG THA CHAI – SU PAN – BAN DEN - SAPA (trekking 14 km) (breakf, lunch)

After breakfast, we walk through 17 km of mountains, ethnic villages, passing a magnificent waterfall. Arrival in the Tay village of Bang Den, the only one in the region to have stilted houses. Return to Sapa by car. End of the afternoon free to visit the two markets of Sapa and do some shopping. Return to Lao Cai, free diner, and night train to Hanoi.

SAPA : 4-DAY TREKKING OF VARIOUS DIFFICULTY

BANG KHOANG – SUOI HO - TA GIANG PHIN – NAM PUNG – MUONG HUM

ATTENTION :The trails of that trekking and the homestay minority houses are still very isolated. The trekking operator is gradually equipping those houses, but they are still basic, for example with with no shower; please bring wet towels, torchlight, towels, and a small travel mosquito net. We put at your disposal one sleeping bag per person (carried by the porter).



Day 1 : Ban Khoang, Can Ho and Suoi Thau (~ 15 km / 5-6 h. walk) (3 meals)


Welcome at the railway station by our driver and ride up Sapa (1-hour ride). Shower, breakfast, and a 20-mn transfer to arrive where your 4-day trekking starts.

After walking through a forest, you climb up to the small village of Can Ho before descending to the village of Suoi Thau, where you are welcome by your hosts, a dao family with which you have diner and spend the night.
 



Day 2 : Suoi Thau and Ta Giang Phin (~ 15 km / 5 h. walk) (3 meals)

Departure after breakfast for a second day of trekking through magnificent mountain scenery. Meetings with the h'mong and dao minority to observe their daily life and activities. Arrival in the small village of Ta Giang Phin late afternoon. Diner and night in the h'mong Mayor's house.


Day 3 : Ta Giang Phin, Kin Chu Phin and Nam Pung (~ 12 km /4 h. walk) (3 meals)

  We walk through the rice field terraces to the Ha Nhi village of Nam Pung. We cross a river (swimming if the weather allows), picnic lunch and continuation of the trekking.

We arrive in a ha nhi and dao village, where we have diner and spend a night in a ha nhi house.
 
 


Day 4 : Nam Pung, Pa Cheo and Muong Hum (~ 16 km / 5-6 h.)

Start the day with an easy walk, during which we cross very authentic isolated villages. If the day is a Sunday, we spend a fascinating time in the market of Muong Hum. Return to Sapa by car mid-afternoon, which allows time for a good shower and some shopping before taking the minibus back to Lao Cai Railway station for the night train to Hanoi.

AMONG THE HA NHI OF LAO CAI (2 days-1 night homestay)

This much less frequented tour takes you among a minority, the Ha Nhi or U Ni, who emigrated between 300 and 200 years ago from Yunnan, the Chinese province north of Lao Cai. Their population is estimated at 18 000 individuals, living in the mountains of the remote region of Muong Te (province of Lai Chau) and in the district of Bat Xat north of Lao Cai. They live in adobe thatched-roof houses, in small villages perched on the flanks of the mountains. Men and women are dressed in black, the women with a sleeveless dress covering a multicolor blouse and a hat of the same colors.

The rates include the night train Hanoi-Lao Cai in the evening preceding the first day of the tour, and one night at the Eden Hotel in Sapa the evening of the second day.


Day 1 : LAO CAI – LUNG PO – Y THI (3 meals)

  Welcome by your driver and guide at the Lao Cai Railway Station, breakfast, and we take the road leading to the Bat Xa Massif. We first drive alongside the Red River up to the h'mong village of Trinh Tuong, then arrive to the h'mong village of Lung Po, on the Chinese border. Visit of the village and picnic lunch.

We then drive inside the massif, with stops on the way to visit more villages, and arrive end of the afternoon in the ha nhi village of Y Ti, perched at 1600 m altitude.

   

Stroll in the village and small trekking around, from 30 mn to 2 hours at your choice. Diner and night in a ha nhi family house.


Day 2 : Y THI – MUONG HUM – TA GIANG PHIN - SAPA (breakf, lunch)

After breakfast, we take another road to reach the h'mong village of Muong Hum, with visit of villages on the way. If Day 2 is not a Sunday, we visit several villages ; if it is a Sunday, we visit fewer villages in order to see the very colorful Muong Hum Market, where the local minorities gather : dao, h'mong, ha nhi, tay and others.

Lunch and road to Sapa, with visit en route of the h'mong village of Ta Giang Phin. Arrival in Sapa end of the afternoon, registration at your hotel, free diner and night in Sapa.
